Named on the bench for a European fixture as early as December 2020, winning Academy Player of the Season at our End of Season Awards, he went on to play a part in promotion back to the Premier League at the end of 2023/24, helping the Foxes lift the Sky Bet Championship trophy.
He made his senior debut for City in a Carabao Cup clash against Tranmere Rovers at the start of that season and followed it up with his maiden league appearance at home to Plymouth Argyle in December 2023.
Making nine appearances for the Foxes in all competitions during 2023/24, the defender scored his first-ever goal for the Foxes against Queens Park Rangers in March 2024.
The England youth international had previous loan experience across 2022/23, starting the season with Rochdale and then linking up with Doncaster Rovers, playing 25 times in Sky Bet League 2.
Spending the 2024/25 season with newly-promoted Oxford United, meanwhile, Nelson was a star performer for the U’s, who retained their Championship status for a second season.
Gaining vital experience in the division, despite an injury which kept him out between November and March, he played 17 times in the second tier, finding the net once, before returning to City ahead of the new season.
